Welcome

Fort Seward, located in the heart of Alaska’s Inside Passage and just a few miles from the town of Valdez, is a must-see destination for tourists and history buffs alike. The fort was built in 1898 to protect the harbor from potential enemy attacks and served as a base for troops stationed in the area until it was decommissioned in 1947.

Today, the fort is managed by the U.S. Forest Service and open to the public for tours. Visitors can explore the barracks, officers’ quarters, and other buildings that have been preserved in their original condition, as well as enjoy panoramic views of Valdez and the surrounding mountains from the fort’s ramparts.

If you’re looking for a unique and interesting destination to visit in Alaska, be sure to add Fort Seward to your list!
